Parnaby
Wins Lindsay Kent Memorial
Stawell
Amateur Athletic
Club held
the Lindsay
Kent Memorial
8km Championship
Sealed Handicap
race on Saturday.
The race
was held
at the back
of the Stawell
Airport in
perfect sunny
conditions
with panoramic
views of
Stawell and
of the Grampians.
However,
the runners
didn’t
have the
time to take
in the views.
Being a championship
race, all
runners started
together
with Col
Barnett setting
a fast pact,
to easily
win the 8
km Championship
in a time
of 29 min
4 sec. Female
8 km Champion
was Susie
Ellis in
a time of
35 min 14
sec.
When
handicaps
were applied
the winner
was a very
surprised
Meg Parnaby,
taking out
her second
8 km for
the season.
Longer races
seem to suit
Meg. Could
she win the
10 km next
week? Second
was the improving
Stan Watson
with Fiona
O'Brein third.
The
Junior race was held over 2 km with a good
field of 16 runners lining up at the start.
Aaron and Marcus fought out the championship
race but Aaron proved too strong over the
last 500m of the race to win in a great time
of 7 min 26 sec.
Lucy
won the Junior Girl 2km Championship in a time
of 7 min
56 sec. In the handicap section of the race
Hugh was the victor after many weeks of being
close to a win. Lucy was second followed
by Aaron.
The Sub-Junior race
was run over 1 km and was won by Nathan in
a time of 4 min 39 sec. Brothers Fraser and
Harry came in second and third. Sophie was
the fastest girl in a time of 4 min 41 sec.
