Parnaby
Wins on Home Turf.
The
Stawell Amateur
Athletic
Club held
the Red Shield
Appeal Handicap
on Saturday.
Members showed
their support
for the Salvation
Army and
Captains
Brad & Angela
Watson by
volunteering
to door knock
on Saturday
morning,
to raise
money for
the Appeal.
Then in the
afternoon
58 runners
contested
the Red Shield
Appeal Handicap.
Twenty-seven
senior runners
lined up for
the 8km handicap
race. The pace
was fast and
furious over
the two laps
of the undulating
4km circuit
around the Rifle
Range
Reserve.
By mid
race the pre-race
favourites Peter
Blair, Phil
Weight and John Collins
were running
strongly, however
with 2km to
go, Meg
Parnaby, a regular trainer
over the course,
set sail for
home to finish
1 minute ahead
of the rest
of the field.
John Collins
put in a good
run for second
place with Rhonda
Clarke third.
Fastest time
was Col Barnett
in 28 min 26
sec.
The
Junior race
was held
over 4km
with 16
juniors taking
on the course,
producing
another great
event. Thomas and Hugh had a great battle
all
the way, with Thomas edging ahead of Hugh
on the last
down hill
to pull away
and win by
5 sec. Alastair
came in
third
place.
The
fastest
time went
to Marcus
in 16 min
7 sec.
The fastest
girl was Greta in a time of 20 min 19 sec.
The fifteen
Sub-Juniors
set out
for a 1.25 km
run with Mackenzie
in full
control most of the
way, but a fast finishing Daniel over took
Mackenzie
to score his second win for the season.
Isaac finished second with Mackenzie
third.
The
fastest time was Nathan in 4 min
44 sec. Fastest girl
was Hannah in a time of 5 min 24 sec.
