Stawell
Amateur Athletic Club mother and son combination
Allison and Alastair Dugdale made it a family affair
when they took out the senior and junior handicap
sections of the Stawell Curtain Centre 10km Championship
last Saturday.
Held over a
testing course through the Rifle Range Reserve,
21 senior runners lined
up for the last
of the Championship series of events this year.
Run
as a sealed handicap, all runners start together,
with first across the line taking the championship
points, then handicaps are applied post race
to determine the overall race winner.
Once again
it was Col Barnett, pressured throughout the race
by Ashley Roberts, who crossed the line first in
a
swift
time of 37min 20sec, giving him a clean sweep
of all the Championship series events this year.
Female
Championship points for the race went to Sharon
Howden, who finished the season second overall
behind Susie Ellis.

When handicaps
were applied, the race produced a very close finish.
Allison
Dugdale’s gritty
performance saw her finish 42sec in front of
the rest of the field, and claim the handicap
and Grand Prix win.
Bob Freeland
took out second placing 14 hundreds of a second
ahead
of Mark
Pumpa,
with Gary Howden less than a second behind
in fourth place. The next 9 runners came in
within 1 minute,
an excellent effort by our handicapper John
Collins.
Ten juniors
set off over a 4km course, with Alastair Dugdale
taking line honours and junior
Championship
points, in a very fast time of 14min 48sec.
Emily
Parnaby was first girl home and took out the
junior female championship section in a
time of 17min
43sec.

Parnaby the girl junior Championship.

were applied, Alastair Dugdale also claimed the
overall race win, from
Thomas
Blair
second, and Nat Watson third.
A determined
Chloe Jamieson put in a solid run to take out
the sub-junior handicap
event, from
Georgia Barnett, with Tobias Blair running
well for third.
Fastest sub-junior
was Liam Scott
in a time of 5min 21sec, and the fastest
sub-junior girl was Elly Barnett in
6min 9sec.
