Wet and muddy conditions greeted
the 21 senior and junior runners last Saturday for
the Barhams Insurance 5km Handicap. Constant rain
dampened the enthusiasm of the field, but you cannot
stop a keen runner when he sees a starting line!!!
Front marker
Gary Saunders was the first to brave the downpour,
but was quickly reeled in by middle markers Meg Parnaby,
Daniel Henry, Nat Watson and Susie Ellis.
Ellis
brushed aside the
tough wet conditions, and was too strong for the
rest of the field, coming home first, with Nathaniel
Warren a further 27 seconds behind to claim
second place. Kieran Ryan, running in his first race
for the season, showed good form to run from the
back of the field to come in third.
Ryan also ran the fastest
time of the day, covering the 5km course in 18 minutes
35 seconds. Susie Ellis was the quickest
female in a time of 21 minutes 52 seconds.
Due to lack of numbers, no
official junior events were held.
